You can't blame the guys for trying, but gawd Real-to-Reel snipped the balls off the bands they recorded. It was shocking how pop & pep the Time Bomb single translated the growl & roar of the Blinders. Wink once explained it to me: they played through these small Princeton reverb amps--onstage they turned the knobs to 10. At R2R Carpenter had them turn the amps way down. "We didn't know any better; we'd never been in a real studio before." Meanwhile, meet the monster, Laurice Niemtus, the bane of the punk community. It wasn't so much that she sucked up to all the crap-ass bands; she actively trashed the bands that mattered.
